The Treatment of A Snake Bite

Welcome to African Reptiles and Venom, where we will make sure you know everything you need to know about the treatment of a snake bite. We not only teach you about the general treatment of a snake bite, we also teach you about first aid training for snake bites and how to recognise certain poisonous snakes in specific – so that the correct anti-venom can be administered.

Aside from the nitty gritty of the treatment of a snake bite, we can also share some very interesting facts with you about reptiles and snakes. Our Snake ID & Snakebite Treatment course is registered with the Wits CPD Office and FGASA. On completion you receive your certificate which you forward to Wits to claim your 5 CPD ("Continued Professional Development" applicable to medical doctors only) points.
Plus, we have reptile and snake safaris! All our Safaris are hosted by Mike Perry – a keen herpetologist.

South Africa is home to a unique and diverse array of reptiles and amphibians including a variety of snakes, lizards, worm lizards, crocodiles, tortoises & turtles and frogs. All these tours are photographic only; no reptiles are removed from their natural habitat. Accommodation can vary from luxury game lodge to camping. A really good adventure for all!

Snake Courses

We – at African Reptiles and Venom – are concerned about the conservation of snakes, therefore we offer snake courses to the public – not only for public protection and treatment of a snake bite, but also to raise awareness and perhaps get the public involved/interested in information about a snake and snake conservation.

Our snake courses will provide you with any information about a snake including the following:

  • General treatment of a snake bite – as mentioned above somewhat specified to bite symptoms and (South African) snake identification
  • The difference between a venomous snake and non-poisonous snakes.
  • Recognising the poisonous snakes in South Africa
  • First aid treatment for bite symptoms
  • How to recognise bite symptoms
  • Reptiles and snakes and their place in the world – a wonderful educational programme
  • The habitat of reptiles and snakes – for snake enthusiasts too!

The snake bite can be fatal in many incidences, but when people are educated about reptiles and snakes, and have the knowledge for first aid treatment for snake bites, many fatalities can be avoided. Plus, some information about a snake is very interesting. We even have a snake handling course!

African Reptiles and Venom offers comprehensive reptile and snake courses where you are able to learn everything you need to know, from South African snake identification to the treatment of a snake bite and common bite symptoms.
